Skin
resurfacing is a non-surgical (non-incisional) technique used to treat acne
scars, pre-cancerous lesions, and sun-damaged skin (brown spots; uneven
pigmentation; wrinkles). The different types of skin resurfacing performed at
our facility are chemical peels and laser resurfacing. There are a variety of
chemical peels varying in intensity and depth, from very superficial peels to
very deep peels.
The type
of peel selected depends on the severity of the skin problem being treated. The
light peels are used to treat mild sun damage and also as a preventative
technique to keep the skin looking smooth and youthful. The deeper peels
are used for more severe sun damage and will tighten the skin, even out the
skin's texture and color, and afford permanent reduction of wrinkles.

Light Chemical Peels ("Lunchtime Peels")
"Lunchtime
peels" are appropriate for patients seeking a fresher look and brighter
skin. These peels have no downtime and, when done as part of a treatment
package, can help clients achieve healthy, younger looking skin.

Deep Chemical Peels
We use
the Hetter Peel for deep skin resurfacing. This type of peel is usually
employed to treat patients with coarse facial wrinkles, severe sun damage, or
pre-cancerous growths on their face. The dramatic results from this type
of peel include a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin surface.

Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser
skin resurfacing is performed with a CO2 laser device. The laser is carefully
passed back and forth over the skin until the surgeon reaches the correct
level. This type of skin resurfacing is recommended for acne scars and other
scars. Laser resurfacing cannot totally remove all facial flaws, but it makes
scars less visible.
