Reconstruction
of defects on the face and body is an integral part of the practice of plastic
and reconstructive surgery. The physicians at Mangat-Holzapfel Plastic Surgery
Center are very experienced surgeons in reconstruction. Weekly, they see
multiple cases of defects on the face due to the treatment of skin cancer with
Mohs micrographic surgery. After a dermatologic surgeon uses this technique to
remove the cancer, he or she often refers the patient to Mangat-Holzapfel
Plastic Surgery for reconstruction of the defect.
Reconstruction ranges from simple wound closure to advanced rotational
and pedicled flaps to bring living tissue to cover the wound.
