ULTRASONIC LIPOSUCTION FOR EXCESSIVE UNDERARM SWEATING (Hyperhidrosis)
Friday, May 15, 2009

Dr. Kuy is now performing axillary (armpit) Ultrasonic Liposuction as a revolutionary new treatment for excessive underarm (axillary) sweating. We all sweat; when we're out in public, for most of us excessive sweating can be very embarrassing. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis and for people afflicted with this condition, it's certainly no laughing matter.

Although the condition rarely signifies a serious health situation, unwanted smells and stained clothing can become unacceptable and increasingly frustrating. Botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) has been the mainstay in treatment of hyperhidrosis. BOTOX is a neurotoxic substance that has been found to be successful, with the procedure giving up to 12 months of dryness. Drawbacks include its expensive cost and the number of treatments needed for its success.

Ultrasonic liposuction can provide permanent reduction of hyperhidrosis and in 80% of the time complete elimination. With this procedure the eccrine sweat glands responsible for axillary hyperhidrosis are destroyed and removed with the ultrasonic cannula. Compared with classic surgical excision, this modality results in less disruption to the overlying skin, resulting in smaller surgical scars. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia through two small 5mm incisions in the underarm area. The recovery is 1-2 days.
