Arm Lift

Many people as they age experience
the loss of skin elasticity in the upper arm area. In
this region of the arm, the skin can also lose its adherence
to the underlying tissue as it is also affected by gravity.
This condition of the upper arm is sometimes referred
to as the "loose hammock" appearance.
An arm lift
or arm reduction surgery can remove excess tissue in
the upper portion of the arms thereby improving the
contour and bringing it back into balance with the rest
of the arm.
About the Procedure

An incision is made along the inner
arm. The surgeon places the incision where the underlying
tissue can best be tightened, but also keeping in mind
to hide the incision as best possible. Excess skin and
fat are removed. The remaining skin is tightened and
sutured into place. The incisions are then bandaged.
An arm lift can be performed under twilight
anesthesia. The arms are placed in a special compression
garment to help the skin adhere and reduce swelling.
Recovery from an arm lift is from five to seven days.
Strenuous exercise is allowed after four weeks.
